Maria Dellapina is the Mother of 4 children, and Founder of Specs4us. Her youngest daughter Erin has Down syndrome and is now battling MoyaMoya.
Over 35 years in the optical field, Maria was licensed in the state of Ohio, worked private practice offices, in the labs, set up retail optical stores, worked part time as an optical trainer for a large retail chain, worked with Vision Therapy, then designed and created Erin’s World Frame line, which is currently distributed all over the world. She decided to start speaking on “Vision Awareness” when she started realizing many parents were coming to her with the same questions about exams, and eyewear. She has presented at many Down syndrome conferences traveling as far as New Zealand and at Optical conferences in the US and Uk. She is a “2010 Winner of the President Award” and “2013 Exceptional Meritorious Service Award” which is presented by the Nation Down Syndrome Congress “for improving lives through the development of specialized eyeglasses for individuals with Down syndrome.” Vision Monday, an Optical Magazine awarded her one of their “Most Influential Women of 2013” award for Innovation. Working Mother Magazine featured her in their June 2014 issue. December 2015 she was Named Toyota’s Mother of Invention by Tina Brown’s Women in the World and she was awarded best company for Innovation by SCORE in Washington DC. July 2018, she was asked to present at the World Downs syndrome conference in Glasgow, Scotland on her Daughter Erin’s journey with MoyaMoya.
Maria served on the IDSC Board of Directors for 6 years.
